Hungarian newspaper scan
This photo was discovered by A. Lovas, who found a 25 year-old Hungarian newspaper featuring behind-the-scenes production photos of Blue Thunder. I am not sure what this photo depicts but it may have been some shot testing of Cochraine's H500 with an explosion to the side.

It came from the same article with the other photo depecting a Jetranger with an actor's chair with Roy Scheider's name on it. It could be a filming / production test before the paint job was applied or the actual filming helicopter was selected. That's why I said "it may have been..."

That is not cochrans helicopter. the paint scheme is wrong and where are the miniguns?
with blowing up sandpiles i might have believed this had it been a huey for the filming of one of murphys flashback scenes...
